Blurb from goodreads:

Angel Crawford has finally pulled herself together (literally!) after her disastrous dismemberment on Mardi Gras. She’s putting the pieces of her life back in order and is ready to tackle whatever the future holds.

Too bad the future is a nasty bitch. There’s a new kind of zombie in town: mindless shamblers, infectious and ravenous.

With the threat of a full-blown shambler pandemic looming, and a loved one stricken, Angel and the “real” zombies scramble to find a cure. Yet when Angel uncovers the true reason the plague is spreading so quickly, she adds “no-holds-barred revenge” to her to-do list.

Angel is busting her ass dealing with shambling hordes, zombie gators, government jerks, and way too many mosquitos, but this white trash chick ain’t giving up.

Good thing, since the fate of the world is resting on her undead shoulders.

My Thoughts:

Holy cow, this book. So much going on - new zombie creatures, new romance, lots of life changes, zombie alligators, intrigue and betrayal, and sooo much snark. I do love Angel's snark. She's funny and blunt and I wish I could be her when I grow up. And speaking of growing up, boy has Angel grown up. She's matured, less impulsive (though still impulsive, just less so), has gotten better at thinking before speaking, has fought her drug addiction, and though she's slipped, has it under control, has gotten a real job, gotten her GED and now she's enrolled in college. She's even made peace with her father and her ex-boyfriend and helped them get their lives back on track.

But life is never quiet for long and Angel's at the heart of the outbreak of a new form of zombies, one where the zombies are very much like the shambling, rotting monsters portrayed onscreen. She works with Dr. Nikas at the Tribe's lab to figure out what's going on and how to stop it. She also goes way out of her comfort zone to work with an old enemy to stop the plague. Along the way, she makes a new friend, helps a friend start a romance, takes out an enemy, helps another friend when he's badly hurt, helps more friends make life decisions, starts a new romance, acquires some unusual pets, and makes some major decisions about her life. Wheeew, that's a lot!

The pace was steady with a mix of action, mystery, character development, romance, intrigue and humor. Entertaining, engrossing, humorous with a side of slapstick, "White Trash Zombie Unchained" wrapped up threads from previous stories and gives Angel an HEA. In fact, the end of the book makes me think it's the end of the series but her site doesn't indicate that and Ms. Rowland didn't answer when I asked her on Twitter. I hope it's not the end, I'd love to see more Angel, but if it's the end, then Rowland wrapped it up nicely. It was a little sentimental but a good ending nonetheless.
